Right to cancel

You have a limited period of 14 days, "cooling off period", in which you may change your mind, withdraw from your place/registration and cancel your contract with the University. If you are a postgraduate student your “cooling off period” will begin each year on your start date (as detailed in your offer letter). If you are an undergraduate student your “cooling off period” will begin each year on the first date of teaching for the first Semester

If you are a postgraduate student and required to pay a tuition fee deposit, you have an initial 14 day cooling off period after the University confirms receipt of your deposit. Your second cooling off period is the same as other students (see above).

To exercise the right to cancel, you must inform us, the University of Leeds of your decision to cancel this contract by a clear statement (e.g. a letter sent by post, fax or e-mail). You may use this model cancellation form, but it is not obligatory.

To meet the cancellation deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning your exercise of the right to cancel before the cancellation period has expired.

Effects of cancellation

If you cancel this contract, we will reimburse to you all payments received from you,

We will make the reimbursement without undue delay, and not later than 14 days after the day on which we are informed about your decision to cancel this contract.

We will make the reimbursement using the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction, unless you have expressly agreed otherwise; in any event, you will not incur any fees as a result of the reimbursement.  

We are very happy for you to just send an email to us at for taught students or for research students, containing your student ID, confirming that you wish to cancel your place at Leeds. Alternatively, you can continue with this statutory contact form for cancellation. Please note that the refund of any deposit is limited as outlined in our tuition fee deposit guidance.
